Police swoop on game shop

Staff dress up as gangsters to celebrate the release of Grand Theft Auto V – and attract armed police

STAFF celebrating the release of Grand Theft Auto V in gangster costumes had a real life brush with armed police who surrounded the store believing a robbery was taking place.

Around 15 armed police surrounded the shop in the town of Montargis in the Loiret after receiving reports of a break in.

The record-selling game, based on realism, violence and criminality, is predicted to sell 25m copies this year and earn its Scottish developers Rockstar North around £1 billion.

Shop staff quickly explained to police what was going on.

"That could have ended very badly,” one police officer told the newspaper La République du Centre which carried the story.
