Register to vote by December 31

EUROPEAN Union citizens have less than three weeks left to register to vote in next spring's municipal and EU elections.

Democracy campaigners are running a last-minute campaign to remind people to register before the New Year's Eve deadline.

Local elections take place across France in two stages, on March 23 and 30. They are followed by European parliament elections on May 25.

While it is possible to register at any point in the year, the electoral roll is updated at the end of the year and applies to any forthcoming elections in the 12 months from March.

Voters can register in person at their town hall by bringing an EU passport and proof of address, or by writing to the town hall with the photocopied documents.

To speed up the process, you are advised to print and fill out the form at this address for the municipal elections and at this address for European ones.

It is also possible to register online with scanned copies of the supporting documents, however not all towns are able to process online requests, so you should check first.
