Register to vote in case of December election
With a December general election now possible, Britons in France should ensure they are registered to vote if they are still eligible to do so.
Anyone who has not been out of the UK for more than 15 years still has the right to be a registered voter in their former UK constituency.
If you have voted in the past you should also double check that you have remained so as Britons abroad fall off the register if registration is not regularly verified – the council should contact you for annual checks but this can be overlooked.
It is also important that you check that you have confirmed with the relevant local council in the UK your wish for a postal or proxy vote, if necessary.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he wants an election on December 12, and the MPs are set to debate this on Monday.
EU diplomatic sources have told the Reuters news agency it is now likely the European Commission will wait until then to decide about whether to accede to the UK’s wish for an three-month extension.
This is because this would be just the kind of major political development which the EU would see as a suitable justification for giving this extra time.
President Macron is reported to have been recommending a shorter period to encourage MPs to ratify the new Brexit deal as soon as possible.
