Second EPS nuclear reactor planned
Calls for protest as news leaks that a new nuclear reactor is to be built in Creusot.
President Sarkozy is expected to announce the construction of a France’s second third-generation reactor at Creusot, Saône-et-Loire.
According to website Les Echos, the reactor could be in service by 2017.
Construction of the first EPR European Pressurised Reactor is already underway in Flamanville, Manche.
Unions CGT and CFDT have called for protests against the reactor.
Meanwhile the authority in charge of the nuclear reactor at Fessenheim, Haut-Rhin has announced that €10million will be allocated towards earthquake protection.
The work will take place from 2009-2010.
The power plant was built in 1977 and is designed to run for 40 years.
France is a keen supporter of civilian nuclear power using it to generate more than 80% of its electricity.
