See where Nobel made his dynamite
One of Alfred Nobel’s factories – now dedicated to restoring old boats – the Anse de Paulilles is beautifully-situated
ORIGINALLY one of the dynamite factories with which Alfred Nobel – of Nobel Prize fame – made his fortune, l’Anse de Paulilles is open for visits later this month as part of the Journées du Patrimoine.
With its beautiful coastal setting in the Pyrénées-Orientales, the site fits well with the theme of this year’s event – the relationship between human activity and nature.
After being refurbished, the buildings now house workshops for the restoration and conservation of old boats.
Described as a place “a to remember working life history and the Mediterranean’s maritime heritage”, the site will be open on September 20-21, 9.00 - 19.00, for free guided tours, exhibitions and talks.
For more about the Journées du Patrimoine, and to find out what sites are open for visits in your area, see Journées du Patrimoine
Scroll down on the homepage to put in your region and/or department and, if you want, narrow the choices down further by types of activity, whether the location is open “exceptionally” (ie. it is not usually possible to visit it) etc.
