Shop sued over girl's drink coma
Father takes legal action after 16-year-old drinks herself into coma with spirits bought at a store.
A father is suing a store in the Côtes d'Armor after it broke the law and sold strong alcohol to his 16-year-old daughter.
The girl and a friend bought three bottles of spirits between them while on a family holiday in Brittany.
She taken to hospital in an alcohol-induced coma but has since recovered.
The law in France allows the sale of alcohol such as beer and wine to under-18s – but not stronger drinks.
Health minister Roselyne Bachelot has previously said she hopes to clear up the law and ban the sale of all alcohol to under 18s in all circumstances.
It currently allows the sale of different types of alcohol to different ages depending on the type of establishment.
The shop, which has not been named, risks a fine of €3.750 for the offence.
