Weather conditions are expected to change dramatically this weekend following a spell of sunny weather this week, with 44 French departments placed under a tier-two yellow storm warning from midday today (May 1).

After a largely cloudy morning, thunderstorms are set to impact the Pyrenees and coastal departments in the south-west, the centre of the country, and the regions of Normandy and Île-de-France, according to state forecaster, Météo France, in their 6:00 bulletin.

Frequent showers and strong winds are forecast from northern Auvergne heading towards Hauts-de-France later this afternoon, and stormy weather is expected to move from the Pyrenees northwards into western departments of Nouvelle-Aquitaine in the evening.

Is your department on yellow alert?

Yellow alerts are the first warning level for disturbances. Residents should stay vigilant if engaged in activities that may be impacted by stormy weather. Weather conditions can occasionally become dangerous and locals should keep up to date with forecasts and weather announcements.
