WINDS of up to 130kmh are striking areas of west France.
A spokesman for Météo France in Toulouse said Britanny, and the west coast were on the front line of high winds and waves of up to 7m.
During the day the storm front will move east along the Pyrenees and hitting the Midi-Pyrénées, Languedoc-Roussillon and surrounding areas.
Rain, snow and winds will raise the risk of avalanches in the mountains.
The winds are predicted to get worse overnight into Saturday morning and residents are being advised to stay indoors.
While Météo France has dropped its weather alert for the north of the country, storms are still affecting Normandy and the north east.
