Take barns out of new energy rule
Connexion reader Kevin Gimbert explains how barns shouldn't be included in the new energy rule.
I WAS pleased to see your report on the new RT2012 energy regulations (Connexion, May). I make my living by completing planning applications and the last 12 months have been very difficult due to lack of knowledge about the rules.
Your excellent article did not mention that barn conversions are also covered by the regulations, which is already having an effect on sales of such projects.
Getting a barn conversion to meet the standards is almost impossible without losing all the internal character of the original building. There is some faint hope that eventually barns will be taken out of the equation.
