Taxi driver convoy hits Paris traffic
Up to 1,500 taxi drivers plan on disrupting traffic on route to Paris’s two main airports
MORE than a thousand taxi drivers are preparing to bring traffic in Paris to a standstill today with a go-slow protest.
Between 1,000 and 1,500 drivers are taking part in one of two convoys, which set off from Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports shortly after 10.00 and will meet near the Champ de Mars at the foot of the Eiffel Tower at 13.00.
Traffic on the A1 motorway heading from Charles de Gaulle into the capital, and the A106 and A6 heading north from Orly into Paris is likely to be severely disrupted for the next few hours.
The go-slow will also affect traffic on the périph and in the city centre, and could last all afternoon.
The drivers are protesting against plans by the two main Paris airports to open up the taxi pick-up and drop-off points to taxi bikes and minibus shuttle services from Friday.
