Travellers luggage stranded in Paris
Computer glitch at Charles de Gaulle airport means thousands of passengers flew from French capital without cases
THOUSANDS of travellers jetted off from Paris’s Charles de Gaulle on holidays and business trips bound for all four corners of the world yesterday - unaware that their luggage remained stranded in the French capital’s biggest airport.
Between 8,000 and 10,000 items of luggage were ‘lost’ in the baggage handling area of the airport after a security imaging system failed yesterday morning - and Air France has already warned that it could take several days to reunite travellers scattered across the globe with their property.
The fault was discovered at 9am, but baggage handling services did not return to normal until 1pm.
A spokesperson said: “A computer breakdown of our luggage sorter affected baggage handling at terminals 2E and 2F at Paris-Charles de Gaulle, including connecting baggage passing through these terminals.
“Flights departed without all passengers’ baggage in the planes’ holds.”
About 80,000 items of luggage are processed every day at the airport.
