Video: watch the world's biggest cruise ship arrive at Marseille
The Wonder of the Seas will undergo the finishing touches of its construction at a shipyard in the city before being put into service in March 2022
The world’s largest cruise ship Wonder of the Seas has arrived at the Chantier Naval de Marseille shipyard for the final stage of work on its construction.
La Provence captured the moment the ship arrived in the city’s port.
Once fully completed the vessel – to be operated by Royal Caribbean International – will be 362 metres long (the equivalent of three to four football pitches), will weigh 236,857 tonnes and be able to accommodate 5,734 people and 1,200 crew members.
On Friday (November 5), it left the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique), where work on the ship had begun in September 2020.
At the end of August the ship completed trials which confirmed it to be seaworthy.
While it remains in Marseille, it will undergo final cosmetic touches as crew members arrive on board to set up their departments.
Royal Caribbean will soon take delivery of Wonder of the Seas which is the fifth of its Oasis-class vessels, and which is expected to begin service from Florida in March 2022.
