Warning sign over ‘roaming animal’ near Toulouse ring road amuses drivers

‘Faster than the traffic’ or ‘competing in the Olympic biathlon’ among humorous online comments

An overhead road sign warning of a mystery ‘stray animal’ near Toulouse has prompted a flurry of amusing comments from drivers on social media.

Posts about the sign have attracted thousands of likes and comments, as the movements of a ‘mysterious beast’ along the road are debated.

A drove of wild boars have been spotted roaming along the western portion of Toulouse’s ring road, near the A624 exit - and are thought to be the cause.

Subsequent warnings have appeared on an electronic overhead billboard nearby, warning of a mystery animal errant (stray animal) on a daily basis.

Social media pokes fun at mystery animal 

A photo of the sign was posted on the ‘Tu sais que tu viens de Toulouse quand....’ (‘You know you’re from Toulouse when…’) Facebook group. 

The person behind the post asked “Any news about the animal that's been wandering around the ring road for three weeks without finding an exit?!”

Many were quick to note that boars that have been spotted in the area, mostly at night.

Drivers replied with photos they had taken of the boars – between three or four in number – leading to suggestions that a drove may be established in shrubbery alongside the road. 

Others decided to give more humorous responses about the ‘mysterious’ animal, calling it a ‘dahu’ (French for a mythical mountain goat-esque creature). 

“The animal moves super fast, it did L'Isle-Jourdain to Blagnac quicker than me this morning,” said one, joking about traffic levels.

“He's in the biathlon final at the Olympics,” said another. 

“There must be a new zoo by the ring road... only the cages don’t shut properly,” quipped another.
