Watch out for breath-test scams
CONSUMERS are being warned to watch out for dubious internet-based deals for the breath-tests
CONSUMERS are being warned to watch out for dubious internet-based deals for the breath-tests which must now be carried in cars.
With shops short in stocks, some people took up internet offers which were misleading and expensive - if they received their products at all.
Many of these sites have reportedly not sent out goods as those behind them are no more able to obtain sufficient supplies than are the shops.
Prices charged by some are also exorbitant, eg. a monthly subscription of €29.96 for eight tests, whereas they cost about a euro each in the shops (bear in mind also that the tests are only intended for when you are unsure if you have drunk too much - do you need a monthly supply?).
Some people were taken in by an offer of two tests for €0.99 P&P, but unwittingly took a subscription as well. A reader said this happened to them, plus they were billed €25 for a vest and a triangle.
It may be advisable to wait for supplies in outlets like pharmacies - there are no fines until November.
