We suspected sites were tracking us
Connexion readers Tim and Dee Morgan explain how they suspected websites were tracking them and their activities.
Very interesting article on the investigation by Cnil and DGCCRF into IP tracking.
We have children and friends in Norway and the UK and travel often with KLM/Air France via Toulouse/Schiphol/Stavanger, or Toulouse/CDG/Stavanger; Easyjet via Toulouse/Gatwick, and P&O Calais/ Dover.
We often need to return to travel sites to coordinate destinations, connections, hotel bookings etc and to seek alternative flight times or travel days.
We have often experienced fare rises for the same enquiry on the second or subsequent visits to a site. Other methods also encourage purchase such as “Only two seats left at this price”.
We suspected IP tracking for the increased fares and note with interest some of the other methods that you describe. We have no doubt that there is some means by which these travel companies identify second or more enquiries for the same route.
