Police are appealing for any witnesses of the daytime attack to come forward
Police are warning people in the Nîmes area not to go to the forest or countryside alone after a jogger was violently attacked.
A woman was assaulted while jogging through a wooded area in the Escattes countryside north of Nîmes on Monday at 18:00.
The police have warned the public via social media channel X, formerly Twitter: "Do not go alone in the countryside or in the forest, even during the day".

The victim was allegedly hit in the face, her trousers pulled down and she was doused with an unknown liquid.
The attacker managed to flee the scene.
Description of the man
The police are calling on possible witnesses to the attack to come forward.
According to the victim’s testimony, the man has short brown hair, of normal build and is 1.85m tall. He was wearing khaki trousers and a long sleeved black top.
A police source says he has the distinctive feature of a thick unibrow.
