Easter Monday in France: what shops can you expect to be open?

Easter Monday, or Lundi de Pâques, falls on April 21 this year and being a public holiday you can expect to find some shops and businesses closed or else open for shorter hours than usual.

With the tourist season getting underway, many shops in popular areas will often stay open across Easter but it is worth calling or checking online before you make a special visit. 

Supermarkets

Shops of the major supermarket chains each set their own hours but many have now updated their Easter hours online or are due to in the coming days.

Many Leclerc stores will be closed for Easter Monday. You can check online by visiting their website and selecting your store.

Intermarché supermarkets will generally be open as usual though certain stores will be closed for the day. Details are now available online for each shop.

Lidl have confirmed their Easter opening hours are due to go online this week for each shop.

Aldi are set to be open from 9.00 to 18.00 on Easter Monday except for certain shops in the Alsace-Lorraine area. Details are due online from tomorrow.

Carrefour has an easy alphabetical list available online showing the hours of all their shops and hypermarkets that will be open for Lundi de Pâques. Many are staying open but with slightly shorter hours than a normal week day.

Some SuperU stores will be closed for the day and further details should be available online this week.

DIY and garden shops

If you are planning to get on with some projects at home during the Easter break you will find a number of shops open on Lundi de Pâques so you can stock up on materials.

Leroy Merlin will have many of its branches open from 9.00 to 19.00 and full details are already online.

Bricomarché confirmed their shops should be open as normal on Easter Monday and opening hours will be confirmed online this week.

Bricorama will also have branches open on Easter Monday but for reduced hours of 9.30 to 12.30 and 14.00 to 18.00. Hours for your local store are due online this week.

Gamm Vert Easter opening hours are up to date on their website with many shops open but closing slightly earlier than usual at 18.00.

Pharmacies

To find your nearest open on-call pharmacy on Lundi de Pâques or other jour fériés (public holidays), you can either phone 3237 (calls cost €0.35 per minute) or use the 3237.fr website to search by department or town name.

Banks and post offices will be closed on Easter Monday.
