A major motorway heading into Paris will be closed for much of August, leading to diversions and expected delays for commuters and also holidaymakers returning from trips.
The A14 will be partially closed from 22:00 tonight (August 4) until the morning of August 27 as modernisation works take place.
These include the installation of new smoke extractor systems in the motorway’s underground tunnel at La Défense.
The closure will take place only on one-side of the motorway, in the direction towards Paris, between the Bâtisseurs and Puteaux exits.
Alternative routes
The road is a major route into Paris from the west, linking up to the A13 that feeds into Normandy.
As the motorway will be completely closed on the affected section during these dates, drivers are recommended to take alternative routes.
These include:
Drivers heading in the direction of Paris along the road should take exit 4 (towards La Défense – Centre), then take the D914 towards Paris/Neuilly-sur-Seine before joining the N13 towards Paris.
From Puteaux (Rose de Cherbourg side) take the D9A to La Défense Centre, then follow the D9 towards Paris/Boulogne-Billancourt, then take the D914 to join the N13 and enter Paris.
From La Garenne-Colombes/Courbevoie (Trinity side), continue straight towards La Défense Centre, and then as above follow the D9 towards Paris/Boulogne-Billancourt, take the D914 and merge onto the N13
Further works later in the year are also expected to lead to temporary closure of the motorway.
These include the creation of a ‘reserved’ lane for certain vehicle types, as well as the dismantling of out-of-date physical tollbooths on the road.
The motorway, alongside the A13 into which it feeds, is one of the major roads to have been transformed into a barrier-free (flux libre) toll road.
