The insurance company reimburses afterwards?
Reader's query about insurance formalities.
I RECENTLY put in an insurance claim because my chimney is leaking. The insurance firm asked me to send estimates, which I have done. Now it says I will have to pay for the repairs and will be reimbursed afterwards. Is that correct? I thought they should pay me first when I have a valid claim. F.B.
IT IS increasingly the case that insurance companies prefer to reimburse the cost to avoid fraudu- lent claims. They also do not like paying for repairs only to find that the funds have been used for alternative purposes, but this comes from the law that states that no-one can use insurance to benefit financially.
