Major traffic is expected across France tomorrow (April 30) due to a three-day weekend that encompasses Friday (May 1) as a public holiday.
Traffic watchdog Bison Futé has issued heightened alerts across the country, with all regions expected to see more activity than usual on Thursday as drivers begin travel plans ahead of the extended weekend.
This applies equally to entry and exit routes into major cities, in particular in the Paris area where the capital’s Île-de-France region has been issued with a red-tier warning, the second highest possible.
The
weekend coincides
with the end of school holidays for Zone C, which
mainly covers the
Île-de-France
region and the south-west of
France.
The weekend also corresponds to the
end of holidays in the Netherlands, with many return journeys
expected on Saturday in the Île-de-France region and on Sunday in
north-west France.
On Thursday, April 30, difficulties
are expected on all major routes for outbound traffic, generally from
mid-afternoon to early evening.
The heaviest traffic is expected in
the north-east, with other areas to watch out for the Atlantic coast,
the Mediterranean region, and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes area.
The below graphic provides a breakdown of traffic forecasts for the long weekend.
