Low-cost carrier Wizz Air is expanding its operations in France and for the first time will offer flights from Bordeaux airport.

The airline is offering three services from Bordeaux-Mérignac for the autumn/winter season, to Rome, Venice, and Bucharest.

It is the first time that the Hungarian airline – a well-known low-cost competitor in Europe alongside firms such as Ryanair and easyJet – will fly from the airport.

Services to Rome and Bucharest will begin at the end of October and services to Venice will begin in December.

Three flights per week will serve the Italian cities, with twice-weekly flights heading to Romania.

Tickets from €30 one-way to Rome, for example, on the WIzz Air website when researched on August 25 by our team.

Currently, all three routes are set to be year-round, with the option to purchase tickets for the next calendar year available.

It is the sixth airport in France the airline will depart from, also serving Nice, Lyon, Grenoble, Paris Orly, and Paris Beauvais.

It goes some way towards replenishing the airport’s list of low-cost routes, after Ryanair pulled out in October 2024 following a row over basing fees.

Budget airline easyJet continues to serve the airport.
