Carla fling rumour web staff resign

Director and writer on Journal du dimanche website resign after publishing rumours of presidential couple's affairs

TWO WORKERS involved with a news website that published rumours that Carla Bruni and Nicolas Sarkozy were both having affairs have resigned.

The director general of Newsweb, which hosts the website of the Journal du dimanche jdd.fr and the author of a blog that was published on the site have both resigned, according to Le Figaro newspaper.

The blog published rumours – clearly described as such – that both Carla Bruni and Nicolas Sarkozy were having affairs.

The story was carried widely in the UK press but largely ignored by French media.

In this month's Connexion journalist and media commentator Jean-Pierre Tailleur talks about the political pressure on journalists in France and the lack of discipline in the British press.
