Cheapest coffees on new Paris map

Mairie publishes details of cafes across the capital where an expresso costs €1 or less

FINDING a cup of cheap coffee in Paris has been made easier by the mairie which has just published an online map of the cafes charging less than one euro a cup.

Despite the capital’s reputation for high prices – the average price for a cup is €1.89 according to a survey late last year for Equip Hôtel – more than 150 of its cafes are on the new map offering cut-price expressos.

One cafe in the 17th arrondissement, the aptly named Petits Freres des Pauvres, is even offering an expresso for just 45 centimes while the Café Livres on the prestigious Rue Rivoli manages a coffee for €1.

In all there are 164 cafes on the new map which comes after the town hall launched an appeal on Twitter and other social media for information on the cheapest coffees. The details will be updated as new information on price changes is added.

The map – available on the Parisdata website here - is just one of a number of Opendata projects that the city has on the site revealing the location of schools, street markets and car parks.
