DIY cycle workshop cut costs

A network of volunteer workshops can cut costs by fixing bikes and help teach owners DIY.

SUMMER sees many more bicycles on the road with an increased need for repairs or maintenance. However a network of volunteer workshops can cut costs by fixing bikes and help teach owners DIY.

Across France 52 groups are linked to the Heureux Cyclage network which provides facilities and expertise to get bikes back on the road and teach some basic skills.

They offer workshops for members to get work done or to attend tutorials and there are 25,000 people taking advantage across the country.

Anyone can ask at a workshop for advice but membership of the local association is needed to to get work or training done. This costs around €20 a year and also gives access to secondhand bike parts, bikes for repair (for as little as €20) and bikes that have been fixed.
