Fruit n veg stalls special sale

For two weekends producers can set up stalls in supermarket car parks

FRUIT and veg stalls can directly challenge supermarkets with a temporary law allowing them to set up in car parks across France over the next two weekends.

A good harvest has produced an abundance of melons, peaches, nectarines, apricots, tomatoes, artichokes and courgettes.

Known as the ventes au déballage they take place today and tomorrow and August 7-8 and allow producers to sell directly to the public.

Agriculture Minister Bruno Le Maire said: "This is a temporary action which we don't want to institutionalise year after year, but if it's necessary to do it more often this year, we will."
