Netflix reveals September launch

Online video-on-demand giant is also reported to have commissioned a France-based series to be set in Marseille

ONLINE video giant Netflix will launch in France in September, it has been announced.

It has also commissioned a French producer to create an as-yet unnamed original series set in Marseille, Le Figaro has said. But it’s unlikely the French series will be ready in time for the online service’s launch in the week of September 15 to 19.

As reported in February, Netflix move into France Netflix move into France has been on the cards for some time.

France will become the fifth European country to benefit from its services, following Scandinavia, Ireland, the UK and the Netherlands.

Netflix is a subscription-based film and television show rental service that offers content via internet streaming.

From mid-September, internet users in France will be able to see thousands of movies and TV series “on demand” for less than €10 per month.

The online TV service is the home of acclaimed series such as House of Cards, Hemlock Grove, and Orange Is the New Black.

Netflix is also targeting other European countries - notably Germany, Beligium and Switzerland, Le Figaro reported.
