Visit Chambord chateau for free

The Loire’s largest chateau, Chambord, is among special locations open free for this month’s Heritage Days

CHAMBORD is the biggest of the Loire Chateaux and is open free for visits as part of the Journées du Patrimoine later this month.

The impressive Renaissance-style pile, built between 1519-1685, is situated in the largest enclosed woodland park in Europe and is a World Heritage site.

The open days on Saturday and Sunday September 20-21 will include guided tours, entertainment, a concert, puzzles and a new exhibition about the site.

For more about the Heritage Days, and to find out what sites are open for visits in your area, see Journées du Patrimoine

Scroll down on the homepage to put in your region and/or department and, if you want, narrow the choices down further by types of activity, whether the location is open “exceptionally” (ie. it is not usually possible to visit it) etc.
