A 4.1 magnitude earthquake was detected in the department of Charente (Nouvelle-Aquitaine) in the early hours of this morning (June 30).
The tremor was felt 20km north-east of Angoulême at 03:26, according to the Bureau Central Sismologique Français.

No damage has been discovered as yet but ‘witnesses’ of the quake are invited to report their experiences here so that research bodies can produce a study on the incident and improve their understanding of how earthquakes affect different areas of France.

An earthquake of 4.1 on the Richter scale is deemed to be ‘light’ but results in the noticeable shaking of indoor objects.
It can be felt by most people in the affected area but rarely causes damage.
Around 10,000-15,000 such earthquakes occur every year around the world.
