France lockdown: What form is required to go out?

Attestation forms for leaving the house return as France goes back into confinement tonight. This time there are three different forms

From midnight tonight (October 29) people in France will once again need to fill in an attestation form to justify leaving the house.

As President Macron said in his speech announcing the new lockdown in France: “This means the return of attestations (declaration forms), as in spring.”

Prime Minister Jean Castex will give more details in a press conference at 18:30 this evening (October 29).

Here is what we know so far.

What kind of attestation forms are there?

For the new confinement in France there will be three different kinds of attestation forms.

General:

The first is the same as the general attestation form used in the last confinement. It declares the reason for trips outside the home such as essential shopping, medical visits, dog walking, caring for others or exercising.

As in spring, it is expected that trips will be restricted to within one kilometre of your home for up to an hour.

Online tool Covidradius can help you calculate distances within one kilometre of where you live.

Work:

The second is for people leaving the house to go to work, or return home after work, and must be presented with supporting documents from an employer. All employees are encouraged to work from home whenever possible.

Take or collect a child from school:

The third attestation is for parents accompanying their children to and from school.

This form is a new addition since spring, as crèches, schools, collèges and lycées will stay open during this confinement, unlike the last national lockdown.

Where can I get the form?

Printable and digital attestation forms will be available from this evening (Thursday 29) on the government Covid website.

Digital forms will also be made available today on France’s testing and tracing app, TousAntiCovid.

Both digital (shown on your devices such as a smartphone), and paper forms are valid.

Are there any circumstances where I don’t need an attestation?

The President said in his speech that there would be some leeway for people travelling home this weekend after taking holidays over the Toussaint (All Saints) period.

Otherwise, all journeys outside the home will require an attestation.

What is the penalty for not having an attestation form?

The fine for being outside of the home during confinement without a valid reason and form is €135.
