Listeria risk prompts ham package recall across France

Packages of Italian-style charcuterie ham from the supermarkets Auchan, Casino and Monoprix are being recalled in France after a risk of listeria contamination was found.

The recall applies to 160g packages of Italian-style, sliced ham and charcuterie.

In Auchan, it is sold under the description “plateau dégustation Italie (Italy tasting platter)” under the supermarket’s own brand. In Casino, it is sold under “Saveurs d’Ailleurs”; and as “Montagne Noire” at Auchan.

Any consumers who believe they have a potentially-contaminated product are advised not to eat it, and to take it back to the point of sale for a refund.

In a statement, Auchan said: “Anyone who has consumed these products and who later developed a fever - and sometimes a headache - is invited to contact their doctor, letting them know about the potential contamination.”

It continued: “Pregnant women are advised to be especially cautious, as are older people and those with immunity deficiency. These symptoms can point to listeria, a potentially-serious illness for which the incubation period can be as long as eight weeks.”

Manufacturer Montagne Noire has opened a helpline for anyone who may have questions. The number is 05 63 77 31 31 (and 06 60 36 63 96 outside office hours).

Monoprix has said that clients are welcome to call its free customer service line on 0800 08 4000.
