New Heritage Lottery sites revealed

Historian and TV personality Stéphane Bern reveals the next 18 monuments in France to receive urgently needed lottery funding

The 18 crumbling French monuments that will receive vital financial aid from funds raised by the next Heritage Lotto have been revealed.

The 13 sites in Metropolitan France, and five overseas were identified by historian and TV personality Stéphane Bern as the most in need of urgent aid.

These monuments in metropolitan France are: l'abbaye Sainte-Marie de Longues-sur-Mer in Calvados, le Beffroi de Béthune in Pas-de-Calais, la maison de Rosa Bonheur à Thomery in Seine-et-Marne, le moulin de Bar-sur-Seine in Aube, la Glacière municipale d'Étel in Morbihan, le moulin de la Fontaine à Thoré-la-Rochette in Loir-et-Cher, le château de Maulnes à Cruzy-le-Châtel in Yonne, les ruines des Herbiers in Vendée, l'amphithéâtre de Saintes in Charente-Maritime, le Viaduc des Fades aux Ancizes-Comps in Puy-de-Dôme, l'abbaye Notre-Dame de Sénanque à Gordes in Vaucluse, le fort de Brescou à Agde in Hérault and bibliothèque Fesch in Ajaccio, Corsica.

Overseas, the following are selected: Saint-André de Morne-à-l'Eau church in Guadeloupe, the façade of the cathedral in Saint-Pierre in Martinique, le relais du Barcaret à Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni in French Guiana, the Gol temple in Saint-Louis in Reunion Island and the Île aux Marins lighthouse in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon.

A further 100 monuments, one in every department and overseas terroritory, which have yet to be identified, will also receive funding from the lottery draws in July and September.

In 2018, the heritage lotto raised €22million and gave financial aid to 269 monuments.
