To the Editor,

Your article about a head-on collision between two vehicles in south-west France caused by an Irish driver reportedly on the wrong side of the road reminded me of something similar that happened about four weeks ago.

I have driven to and from my second home in France for the last 26 years. Recently I turned left out of a track onto an A road in Dordogne.

I was merrily driving along when a car came around the corner on my side of the road! I was on the wrong side!

Thanks to the quick thinking of the driver, the car ‘overtook’ me (fortunately, nothing was coming the other way), but it didn't half scare me.

I had done exactly the same in a village the previous week, but realised pretty quickly and crossed over. It is easy to do and very scary. I was lucky.
