French film students miss out on Oscar

Award for short animated film goes to Kobe Bryant's Dear Basketball

French animated short film Garden Party missed out on an Oscar at the glitzy ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

As we reported a few days ago, the film was made in 2016 by six students as part of their graduation project from the école d'animation d'Arles (MoPA).

But, at the Dolby Theatre, the seven-minute film following a group of amphibians as they explore a strangely empty mansion in Beverly Hills, missed out on the statuette, which went to Dear Basketball, which was written and narrated by former NBA star Kobe Bryant.
