1. Futuroscope frights

Readers living in the Poitiers area who have little ones visiting for the Halloween period should head to the Futuroscope high-tech theme park for some fearful shows and experiences.

You will meet special characters including the ‘Freaky Family’ and the Rocket Vampire, as well as Raving Rabbids, while the ‘horribly funny’ 3D adventures sees a family transformed into frightening characters and transported into a video game after a witch casts a spell on them.

And as night falls, get ready to meet Grocauchemar in the spooky night-time show ‘The Key To Dreams’.

Meanwhile, La Table d’Arthur restaurant will be getting into the Halloween spirit with a “themed lair of gourmet delights you can get your fangs into without ruining your appetite,” says the park.

From October 18 to November 3 at Futuroscope.

2. Dog lover’s paradise

Aubervilliers (93) near Paris is the new must-visit destination for dog lovers thanks to the newly opened Dog Museum – the first French museum entirely dedicated to dogs!

Located in the media library in the Centrale Canine federation’s premises, it welcomes all enthusiasts and curious visitors to discover the world of dogs through hundreds of works of art and unusual objects.

Among the objective of the Central Canine Society for the Improvement of Dog Breeds in France, founded in 1881, are to ensure the improvement and restoration of working, sporting, and companion dog breeds in France; and to bring together the various French societies and clubs involved in dog breeds, their promotion, training, and usefulness.

Dogs on leashes are welcome, bien sûr!

3. Limoges gets jazzy

Ben L'Oncle Soul is among the performers in Limoges

Limousin jazz fans should make room in their early autumn diary for November’s Éclats d’Émail Jazz Festival Edition (the Enamel Shards Festival – a reference to Limoges’ enamel heritage), which this year celebrates its 20th year.

“Under the artistic direction of Jean-Michel Leygonie, the festival weaves, year after year, a strong link between a living musical genre and a vibrant city, to the rhythm of unforgettable concerts,” say organisers.

Among the big names performing this year are Ben L’Oncle Soul and Faada Freddy. Runs from November 14-23 in various venues around the city.

4. Dig the digital garden

Digital Floralia is an immersive, virtual botanical garden experience

The Musée des Beaux-Arts in Angers (Maine-et-Loire) will be transformed into a spectacular digital botanical garden thanks to Digital Floralia, the latest creation of Miguel Chevalier.

He is a “pioneer in exploring the aesthetic potential of computer tools, particularly 3D printing, software, and algorithms, he has made a name for himself over the past 40 years, in France and beyond, by creating all kinds of objects and installations that play with the real, the virtual, the immersive, and the interactive,” says the museum.

“With its reflections on nature, plants, the notion of artifice, digital beauty, and our relationship with the natural, dreamt, virtual, and ‘real’ world, it creates a meeting place where art allows us to question our humanity and our global society.”

As well as the shifting imagery, visitors can also enjoy a cabinet of curiosities, rare books, herbarium plates, and other curiosities from the collections of the Muséum des Sciences naturelles d’Angers, as well as a digital herbarium and 3D-printed sculptures.

Runs until January 18, 2026.
