Resident hits at water company for ‘unacceptable’ delay in restoring supply to hamlets in the Dordogne
by JANE HANKS
Tourists holidaying in the Dordogne are facing their third day without water after the mains supply dried up - and they say conditions are difficult.
Connexion reader Malcolm Warner said around 100 people were without water over the bank holiday weekend in the hamlet of La Doinie and neighbouring Hyronde near Montignac and said it was “unacceptable”.
Mr Warner, who lives in La Doinie, said it was a stressful situation: “Usually there are 22 people living here but at the moment there are 35 more staying in gîtes and it’s the same in Hyronde and means that nearly 100 people are having to get by without water which is not easy, especially for people who have come here for a holiday.
“People are having to use water from swimming pools to flush toilets.
“I know there can be problems, but in this day and age it is unacceptable to have to go without water for three days.
“We really feel there has been a lack of communication from the water company.”
Supplier Véolia said pipes in the commune of Saint-Geniès have become clogged with calcium deposits and it had provided each household with 12 bottles of water yesterday and today. It has staff working to clear the blockage and hopes to get things back to normal by this evening.
A spokesperson said the problem could not have come at a worse time as it had many staff on leave for the bank holiday.
