€1m reward for Cannes jewels
Insurers Lloyd’s offers reward to the first person to give information leading to recovery of €100m jewels
A REWARD of €1 million will go to the first person to give information leading to the recovery of jewellery stolen in France’s most-expensive robbery.
Lloyd’s, the insurers of the diamond group Leviev, said the reward would be subject to “certain conditions” but did not specify them.
A source involved in the investigation told Le Figaro newspaper that a total of 72 pieces were taken during the robber at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes, 34 of which were ‘exceptionally’ valuable.
The reward will be paid in proportion to the information offered and the amount of jewellery retrieved.
Lloyd’s made a similar offer following the theft of €85m of jewels from Harry Winston in Paris in 2008. After six months, 80% of the stolen pieces were recovered and 26 people arrested.
