€7 Aldi wine voted world’s best rosé
The Côtes de Provence Exquisite cuvée 2016 beat thousands of competitors in an international wine contest
The wine was voted second best in the world and best rosé at the ‘International Wine Challenge’ in London in the value wines category. The jury described the wine as “rich in summer fruits with refreshing acidity”.
The rosé is produced in Carnoules in the Var region by Jules Wines. In an interview with ‘20minutes’, the Anglo-Canadian winemaker Julian Faulkner said, “I call it my Communist wine! It can compete in the luxury world, but it’s also an everyday product.”
Faulkner targets a foreign market. 200,000 bottles are produced for the UK, where it is sold in Aldi for £5.99, and a further 200,000 bottles are sent to the US.
“Once again the quality of the wines we stock has been recognised, testament to our hard work in offering exceptional produce at a reasonable price,” said Aldi managing director Tony Baines.
