80kg cocaine found in supermarket
Drugs found when staff opened boxes that were supposed to contain South American bananas
ALMOST 80kg of cocaine was found at a supermarket in Seine-Saint-Denis, hidden inside boxes that were supposed to contain bananas, police have said.
Bosses at a branch of Auchan in Epinay-sur-Seine called police after staff found the drugs when they opened the boxes yesterday morning.
The bananas came from South America, police said.
The latest seizure comes a matter of days after customs officials at Nice airport discovered 21kg of cocaine, with an estimated street value of €1.3million hidden inside luggage.
The stash was placed in a suitcase that had been fraudulently labelled with the name of a tourist travelling from the Dominican Republic
Last year, authorities in France seized a total of six tonnes of cocaine.
