Air France joins June 24 strike

Flights will be disrupted on June 24 in industry-wide national strike that will also hit SNCF rail services.

AIR FRANCE pilots and cabin crew are to take part in this Thursday’s national industry-wide strike to defend their right to retire at 60.

Five unions representing the French airline’s workers have given formal notice of the walkout which will affect flights from 1.00 on June 24 until midnight.

It will be a difficult day for travelling in France, with the SNCF also taking part in the strike. Train services will be disrupted from 20.00 on June 23 until 8.00 on June 25.

The RATP network in Paris will also be hit, with delays on the metro and RER A and "severe delays" on the RER B. Buses and trams should operate a near-normal service.

Across all industries, the CGT, Unsa, CFDT, FSU, Solidaires and CFTC unions are looking to beat the one-million turnout figure for last month’s national strike, on May 27.

Many areas will be operating a minimum level of service in schools. Further details of the disruption will be posted on www.connexionfrance.com when announced.

A union-wide meeting is scheduled for June 29 to discuss any further action over the summer and the rentrée.

The government is planning to overhaul the pensions system, increasing the retirement age from 60 to 62 by 2018.

The law will be subject to a full series of debates in parliament from September.
