Almost 90% of Europeans have negative view of Trump
Almost 90% of Europeans have a negative perception of US President Donald Trump, rising from 75% in January last year, a new survey has shown.
The new poll, from Odoxa-Dentsu Consulting, for French news sources FranceInfo and Le Figaro, showed that one year after the election of Donald Trump, 86% of Europeans overall have a negative perception of him.
This has risen by over 10 percentage points since January - when Trump officially became President - when 75% had a negative perception.
French people are most likely - compared to the British, Italians, Germans or Spanish who took part in the study - to see Trump as aggressive (87%), dangerous (81%) and racist (81%), with 43% saying they do not believe he will stay in the White House until the end of his term (four years).
Just 14% of French people say he is competent, and just one third or less (33%) finds him charismatic or dynamic (22%).
Even French supporters of far-right party the Front National are not happy with Trump, with 70% expressing a negative view of him - a 30% downturn in perception since January.
Spanish people are most distrusting of Trump overall, with 92% saying they have an overall negative perception of the current US President.
According to the poll, Trump is the most-negatively-perceived leader, even more so than Russian President Vladimir Putin (75% see him negatively), and far more than German Chancellor Angela Merkel (57% positive), and France’s own President, Emmanuel Macron (55% positive).

The poll comes as Trump’s own controversial Twitter account - @realdonaldtrump - was temporarily taken offline by a Twitter employee on their last day in the office.
Twitter has since said it is launching an investigation into the move, but the President’s account is used to controversy, due to Trump’s much-parodied and criticised habit of taking to the social network to make statements about foreign policy and beyond.
