Animal activists help refugees
Campaign group calls on donors to donate fur coats and shoes to help freezing people survive
ANIMAL rights group Peta will give unwanted fur coats to refugees in Calais to help them through the winter.
The charity said it would be giving away warm clothes that had been donated “by people who had chosen to empty their wardrobes of these cruel products” after learning that migrants from Syria were at risk of freezing to death.
Its head, Mimi Bekhechi, said: “Peta can’t bring back the mink, rabbits, dogs and other animals who were slaughtered and had their fur ripped from their bodies, but we can give help to refugees who are struggling to survive.”
She added: “Peta is calling on fur-wearers to clear their consciences and donate their coats so that desperately cold refugees – the only people with any excuse to wear fur – will stay warm this winter.”
It will also be passing on shoes donated by the public to help “refugees without homes who are more and more at risk of hypothermia and pneumonia” this winter. Homeless refugees in Syria will also receive aid.
