Ash cloud stops some flights
French airspace to remain open despite closure of airports in other countries says civil aviation authority
FRENCH airspace will remain open despite a new cloud of volcanic ash disrupting flights in Europe, France’s civil aviation authority has announced.
Over the weekend more than 70 flights were cancelled from Paris, Nice, Lyon, Bordeaux and Toulouse because of a cloud of ash affecting other airports in Europe.
Flights to Italy, Spain, Croatia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland were among those affected and some airports in these countries remain closed today.
The civil aviation authority (DGAC) has announced that the bulk of air traffic in France should be operating at normal levels.
