Bid to raise pet penalties in France
A group of MPs have called for more severe punishments for people who abandon pets, as 12 pets are dumped every hour, or 100,000 a year.
Nord MP Béatrice Descamps said summer had seen the highest number of abandons and cruelty penalties should double from two years’ jail with €30,000 fine and reach 10 years and €80,000 if a pet was caged.
Another proposal is for a tax deduction for anyone adopting a cat or dog from a home.
The bill will be debated in December.
