Biscuits on prescription
Patients with severe nutrition problems could get special biscuits to help them put on weight – with the biscuits paid for by the Assurance Maladie on prescription.
Developed by a team at Nice CHU, the Protibis biscuits are high in both protein (22%) and calories and help build up sufferers’ appetites while cutting pressure sores and diarrhoea. More than two million people in France are affected.
Made by start-up Solidages, the biscuits are sold in pharmacies and cost €3.95 for a pack of 16. Solidages says they are easy to eat even for those with dentures, can be dipped into tea and still remain whole and can also be broken up into crumbs to put into puddings.
