'Brits cook more than the French'
Cross-Channel survey finds French spend less time in kitchen and are less likely to cook international dishes
FRENCH people spend less time in their kitchens than their British counterparts and cook a smaller range of dishes, a new survey has revealed.
The research by BBC food magazine Olive in the UK and Madame Figaro in France found 72% of Brits cook at home every day, compared with 59% of people in France.
Half of respondents in the UK said cooking took at least 30 minutes of their day, compared with just over a quarter of French.
The magazines also found that British cooks prepared a wider range of dishes, including Italian, Indian and Chinese dishes, than those in France.
Olive editor Christine Hayes said: "Alt¬hough the French have an enviable food heritage, it’s fascinating to see how much British people have emb¬raced home cooking and international cuisine over the past few years."
French consumers were found to eat out more often - going to a restaurant about three times a month - whereas Brits went once a fortnight.
The findings are based on survey results from 2,060 readers of Olive and 1,345 Madame Figaro readers.
