Bruni baby is a presidential first
Nicolas Sarkozy will become the first French President to have a child while in power
NICOLAS Sarkozy and Carla Bruni's baby will be the first born to a presidential couple while in power.
Although the Elsyée Palace has refused to comment on the couple's private life, the president's father Pal Sarkozy told a German newspaper that a grandchild was on the way and confirmed rumours.
Bruni was congratulated by a TF1 presenter during an interview on Monday, when she was speaking on behalf of a foundation fighting against illiteracy.
The subject of the congratulations was not mentioned and Bruni simply returned the compliment.
The newspaper Sud Ouest, reporting a source close to the Elysée, said she is expecting to give birth in October.
It will be her second child, and her first with Nicolas Sarkozy.
The president has three children, two, Pierre (26) and Jean (25), by his first wife Marie-Dominique Culioli and a third, Louis (14) with his second wife Cécilia Ciganer-Albeniz.
