Burglar caught by his pants

Man receives one year in prison after DNA test on underwear links him to sausage factory raid

A BURGLAR has been sentenced to one year in prison after leaving his pants behind when he raided a sausage factory.

The 23-year-old left his briefs on the site of the old Souchon d'Auvergne factory in Saint-Maurice-de-Lignon (Haute-Loire).

The factory was robbed of copper wiring and batteries some time on September 26 - 30.

Police carried out DNA tests on a pair of pants left behind in the factory and found they had been worn by a 23-year-old Romanian man who was already known to them having been previously convicted for burglary.

The man was not present yesterday when his case was heard at the court at Puy-en-Velay.

No defence case was heard, and thus the reason behind the presence of the pants remains unknown. He was convicted and sentenced in absence to one year in prison.
