Carrefour recalls E. Coli burgers
Own-brand product has been pulled from shelves and customers can get a full refund in-store
SUPERMARKET giant Carrefour has recalled a batch of frozen beef burgers that it believes has been contaminated with E. Coli.
The firm said it had received no complaints from customers yet but noticed the bacteria – which causes the majority of food-related illnesses – during a routine check.
The Carrefour own-brand burgers affected by the contamination come with a reference number IE 565 EC and a use-by date of August 5, 2010.
They have been pulled from the shelves of all Carrefour, Carrefour Market and Champion stories in France.
Anyone who bought them should return them to the store for a full refund. A freephone number has been put in place for any queries: 08 05 90 80 70.
Carrefour stressed that E. Coli is killed off by temperatures above 65°C and the burgers did not represent a significant threat as long as they were cooked thoroughly.
