Case that ‘could end Brexit’ heard today
A French lawyer’s case attacking the basis of the Brexit negotiations is being heard this morning in the General Court of the EU in Luxembourg.
Julien Fouchet from Bordeaux, will set out his arguments before five judges, saying that the UK’s EU referendum broke EU rules on equal treatment of citizens by excluding long-term expatriates from the vote.
He will argue that essentially they were punished for using their EU free movement rights, by not being able to take part in a vote that had crucial consequences for their lives.
He believes that the case may call off the Brexit negotations.
He is arguing the case on behalf of 13 Britons who live in other EU countries, including Second World War veteran Harry Shindler.
