Casse-toi pauvre con
Presidential-style outburst results in €30 fine for ex-politician.
A FORMER Socialist politician was fined €30 for brandishing a sign with the words “Casse-toi pov’con” at the car of President Sarkozy.
Hervé Eon, 56, a former Socialist politician was fined by a court in Laval for insulting the president, using the very words Sarkozy let loose upon a farmer at the Paris agricultural show last February.
Sarkozy’s outburst “Casse-toi pov’con”, which has a wide range of translations starting from the less extreme “get lost you sad git”, caused outrage among politicians.
It came just weeks before his party received a drubbing at municipal elections.
It also provoked a vast number of tribute videos and songs on the internet.
The incident was caught on camera after a farmer refused to shake hands with the president saying “don’t touch me” and inferring the president was “dirty”.
The fine against Eon was suspended and he has said he will appeal.
“If his intention was not to cause offence but simply to to give a lesson in politeness, he would not have forgotten to frame the phrase in the style of “we don’t say…” ruled the court.
